Event Christmas silveira kindegrten and preschool 11/29/2016

Went to an event that that my internship threw they had a concert at a local  church in portsmouth called st baranbis church in which alll three class sang to to three christmas songs. First the tolddlers sung jingle bells, then the  two nad three year olds sang must be santa,. Then the 4 and 5 year olds sang we three kings, away an the manjors. It was so cute to see all the kids sing even though mostly heard the adults singing. This relates to the article i just read for the class historical development of youth develpopment programs it speaks about helping children meet there poetentional and basic needs. Kids who depend on thier parents, orpahned children or children who have behaviroial problems. Just like the internship im in, but it differnt in the snese it teaches kids curriculim  material but it also teaches the kids basic things, like washing hads had to write color draw, cognitive skills, fone motor skills.
No picturees were allowed to be taken of their children there was no persmission slip out for that.

Youth Skills

Quality

strinign it all together

I have learned how to be a greta leader i have learned ways to keep kids engaged by using ice breakers, and midfulness activities.  Youth devlopment is geared towards  areas in low income areas where children have single pareent family homes who may need a place to go while there parents are working youth spaces like ymca or the boys and girls club help  those parents in need. This article does help  me undertsnads why i chose this major because ,i do want to help the kids in lower income areas, who may not have the resources as a stduents in a wealthy area.
Youth development is a program in which youth workers help kids become great leaders through purposful play, mindfulness activities and homework help. Ways in which youth workers work in afterschool programs, before school programs, dcyf centers with kids. Yputh devlopment progarms are usualy nonprofit  such as YMCA, Boys and Girls clubs, Martin Luther king center, food banks.

center for reslience

Center for resilience is  great program that teaches skills to students who may be struggling academically who may have a hard time paying attention, or are hyper in class.it gives them the skills and tools they need in order to be successful students and leader in the classroom. Some of the students they showed had a hard time or were mean and bullies and after they used some of these techniques they became better leaders. I think by using techniques like this to how students there is different ways to take out your anger or stress by deep breathing activities making water globes with glitter, making stress balls. I think this is a program that should be introduced to more schools all around.

president of RIC speech in Alger 110 / Event 1

During the president speech it was set up like a question and answer he would allow students to ask the questions then he would answer. Some of the major themes and topics that students raised concern to were having more parking spaces for people who commute back and forth to school because there are non and commuters end up leaving there house an hour early to find a parking spot they don't end up finding one the they end up 10 minutes late to class. Another big topic was about not having enough advertisement for what The school represent they are known for their teaching program but students felt like it isn't advertised enough.  Also being inclusive with students who may be are of the LGBTQI community there was concern from a student about not having enough gender neutral bathrooms for people to use. A major topic was making teachers aware of students with learning disabilities giving them training on how to better work with them during the class time without breaching that students confidentiality. Finding a convenient location where all students who need extra time can go and instead having to walk on the other side of campus to do their tests. last big topic discussed was inclusiveness with student parents there a concern about not enough events that specially include bring your family on the flyer it makes student parents unwelcome and uncomerftable to go to events. I think the president did  a very good job responding to each individual students concern he kept saying they are in the process of looking at each individual issue they have a massive strategic plan they are now creating in order to get the changes into effect. I believe there will be change because he does seem to really care about making a great community on campus. This kind  reminds me Of youth In action where every students wants their voice to be heard and their concerns to be addressed and changed; just like the students at youth in action they go to the program because it a safe space where they can engage in conversation with their peers about concern in their community that they may want to see changed.

election 2016

My question is why was Donald trump chosen as  one of the candidates?
what makes me shy away from voting is because  I am not well informed on politics I have not much idea how it works. I am very aware of the issues going on in the world that need to be changed  there is  so many issue that go beyond words. For the candidates I am well aware of each of them in my opinion Donald trump is the most outlandish, racist, sexist person I have ever seen the words that come out of his mouth are disgusting and outlandish, he is more focused on making Hillary look bad. She has flaws and has made mistakes but to me she is better equip mentally to be a president. I don't like to get to much into it because the thought of him becoming president makes me not happy.
This election alienate me because one of the candidates Donald trump I just do not like. I know the only way to change this so his doesn't win is to vote. stuck in a position where I do not know what I am going to do.
What is going to happen to the future of are youth?
Will this election change possibility of low income students not being able to go to school?
What happens to those with out health care?

context mapping

context mapping is a way to figure out who you are your interests, where you fit in and how you identify to things in your life, weather it be religion, groups, or friends to the clothing you wear. Antwon was testing Julian friendship to see if he was really down to prove he was one of his good friend by having him watch out for teachers so he could vandalize the bathroom walls. he also had him draw on the walls because he knew he had great drawing skills. That is a form of  peer pressure, a point in time where youth are trying to figure out what crowd they fight in sometimes they feel obligated to do what a friend tells them because they want to be cool and fit in.

Forced closed identity: when  person see things as one way only and doesn't expand their options due to limited experiences to different ways of viewing to do things.

Identity moratorium: when a person  curiously takes interest in roles, and belief, or relationships and behaviors but does not actually stick to them.

Achieved identity: when a person finally finds their identity and who they are and want to be and they are highly proud of who they are who they chose to become.

My Context Map:

Family: My mom, my brother, my sister, my nana
Social Media: Facebook, Instagram: Family, friends, old high school teachers
College: Senior, Major YDEV, Concentration Youth and the Arts

ideology

My ideology was  risk, resiliency and prevention based on this survey it says I am going to be a youth worker that is going to be their to protect children from negative, I am going to help encourage youth to talk about problems going on in their communities come up with ideas to change the communities. Although this survey said this is the type of youth worker I will be I don't  agree with everything it said. I do want youth to have a space where they can talk about the things that they would like to see in the community change. When it say that we are trying to be problem solvers. me personally i guess it is a little problem solving by trying to come up with ideas to better the communities but at the same time in not trying to change the students in the community.   I am  an advocate to them and giving them skills and tools they need to create better communities.  As a youth worker I want to encourage them to be the best they can be and give them tools and knowledge to do that I also want them to have a platform where they lead but I also I lead with them so it is equal.
